Alex Adams-Waite (Graduate Process Engineer, Technical Sales) has successfully completed a comprehensive six-month course with the Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD), earning a well-deserved Distinction in the General Certificate in Distilling (GCD). This achievement was realised through an examination, signifying a substantial step in Alex’s professional accreditation within the distilling industry.
Balancing this certification alongside his responsibilities at Briggs, Alex shared insights into the IBD that shape the distilling landscape. The GCD not only imparts a profound understanding of core distillation processes but also applies them within the broader framework of the distilled spirits industry. Alex emphasised the diverse range of raw materials, from grains for whisky to agave for tequila and molasses for rum. The programme explores fermentation theory, maturation processes, and quality considerations, offering a holistic perspective on the industry’s intricate processes.
When asked about the application of this new knowledge in the workplace, Alex expressed that it is primarily for awareness. Whether addressing client enquiries or discussing the base ingredients, the certification equips him with a deeper understanding of the distilled spirits industry processes as a whole. Looking toward the future, Alex has ambitious plans for further education and professional development activities within the distilled spirits sector.
Congratulations once again Alex on this fantastic achievement.
